Eat This … Not That This Holiday

Fourth of July is around the corner, which means BBQ, sweets, and alcohol for some of you. There is no shame in enjoying the holiday. After all, it only comes once a year. But, if some of you have goals that these holidays don’t align with, don’t worry. Here are some great alternatives to these classic dishes you will find at most holiday gatherings. Have a fun and safe holiday!

Healthy alternatives to enjoy this July 4th

Replace a hot dog with chicken sausage

Chicken Sausage→ Hot dog

Eat a turkey burger instead of a hamburger

 Turkey Burger→ Hamburger

Enjoy low fat ice cream this holiday
Low-fat ice cream→ Ice Cream

Drink hard seltzer vs beer this holiday
 Hard seltzer→ Beer

Eat a fruit bowl with whipped cream instead of pie

Fruit bowl with whipped cream→ Apple Pie

Prep for holiday eating ahead of time!

Try to make some dishes beforehand that you can share with everyone. Volunteer to prepare a fruit salad for a side dish or a nice salad to pair with main meals. Maybe you hear Aunt Karen is making your favorite peach cobbler and you can’t resist having a piece. That is okay! Try planning your meals around the dessert so you can enjoy it without any guilty feelings. If it is really difficult to stay on track with temptation right in front of you, choose a trusted accountability partner that will be there with you and can provide support when you need it most.

The journey never needs to be taken alone. Having a confidant that understands your goals and struggles may be helpful beyond the fourth of July party. At the end of the day, if you choose to enjoy this holiday without restricting yourself, that is okay too- this is your journey. Tomorrow is a new day and it is waiting for you to conquer it!
